Hall of Fame lawyer to keynote FOI annual meeting

The longtime legal adviser to the Iowa Freedom of Information Council will be the featured speaker on Thursday, November 9, at the Council’s annual meeting. Iowa Newspaper Association members are welcome to attend.

Michael Giudicessi, a partner in the Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath law firm in Des Moines, will give us a much-needed pep talk about these uncertain times when people face more roadblocks and financial hurdles to gain access to government meetings and documents.

Besides challenging us, Michael will host the

meeting in the law firm’s conference center on the 33rd floor of the 801 Grand building in downtown Des Moines. The meeting will start promptly at 5:30 p.m. and will wrap up by 7:30.

Beverages and hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Please let us know whether you will attend so we can get your name on the attendee list. Because of the after-hours time for the event, we need to provide building security with a list of those attending.

Michael was inducted into the National FOI Hall of Fame in 2017. He was recognized for his long record of advocacy in support of sunshine laws and the First Amendment.

The meeting will include presentation of the Iowa FOI Council’s Harrison “Skip” Weber Friend of the First Amendment award to several honorees. The award recognizes those who have done an outstanding job of advancing the cause of open and accountable government through their work and their advocacy.
