RADIO AND WEB NEWS DIRECTOR/REPORTER: Come work for Iowa’s 2024 Newspaper of the Year. The Iowa Falls Times Citizen is seeking a Radio and Web News Director/Reporter who will write stories for the Times Citizen newspaper, report on-air for KIFG Radio, and on post stories to the web, creating a quality local news product that is compelling, fresh, and relevant. Must have expert news judgement and is a decisive and assertive journalist. Job duties include preparing daily newscasts for KIFG Radio in approximately three-minute segments by gathering information and facts, developing stories, as well as writing articles for daily newscasts on KIFG Radio. In addition, the Radio and Web News Director/Reporter will report on current local community events, courts and crimes, and help cover local government and/or school board meetings for the Times Citizen newspaper. Other job duties include posting articles to the website, editing staff news articles for radio use, and adding in news actualities when appropriate. The right candidate will also be able to develop a strong sense of ownership/accountability in the job. Must have basic camera skills, some videography, and be comfortable with on-the-spot live interviews. The right candidate will also fill in as Morning Show host on KIFG and have general knowledge of station responsibilities while Station Director is away. At least three years of job experience and a degree from an accredited college or university is preferred, however, we will train the right candidate. NEWS/SPORTS WRITER/PHOTOGRAPHER: Wanted for the Humboldt Independent, an award-winning north-central Iowa weekly. The position will be full-time and could include a variety of duties, including but not limited to general news and meeting coverage, sports writing and photography, feature writing and photography, agricultural and business coverage, copy editing and computer pagination of pages. This would be an entry level reporting position that can be tailored to the abilities and interests of the right candidate. Some experience beneficial, but we are willing to train a person who has a desire to learn and become a great community journalist. We cover the entire county and focus on all aspects of life that are of interest to our readers. In addition to the regular paper, we published a monthly full-color news magazine with all local content and have a regular digital news presence in our community.
