Explore a new solution for preserving digital news:
We’re looking to expand on a pilot program developed by the Reynolds Journalism Institute and Portico. The program is exploring a scalable, long-term solution for preserving digital news content. This came out of a report RJI did into 2021 that showed most news organizations lack a comprehensive strategy to preserve digital content. Through this pilot program they hope to have a better understanding of the costs involved and what type of funds they need to raise to provide this at no-charge to newspapers.
They need additional participants to get to a scalable number and are asking us to find some participants. By participating, you not only protect your own digital archives, but you’d be helping develop a preservation model that can benefit newsrooms across the country.
Here’s the key benefits for participating –
- Preserve your content securely and reliably in Portico’s dark archive, used by thousands of academic publishers.
- Recoverable archive: Regain access to content lost to deletion, system failure, or platform changes.
- Minimal effort required: A 30-minute call, a simple agreement, and CMS coordination—Portico would handle the rest.
- No disruption to your operations: Portico works directly with CMS providers like BLOX and WordPress.
- Free participation during the pilot phase, with full access to your preserved content.
