Members share a deep and meaningful connection to storytelling, bringing truth to their audiences, and making meaningful connections to our communities through quality journalism. Our occupation is more of a vocation, a passion for bringing the moments, the meaningful events and the monumental shifts in our society to our readership in a way that tells the history of our times, day by day, and story by story. Members of Iowa Newspaper Association are from a wide range of communities and media, and we welcome them, we welcome you, to the tapestry of our commitment to free speech and a free press.
To qualify for election as an Active Member, a person:
Shall be an individual, partnership, corporation or association or other entity which publishes a newspaper:
With a paid circulation of at least fifty percent of the total circulation
– With a publication frequency of at least fifty times per year,
– With a second class mailing permit from the United States Postal Service, and
– Which shall have completed one year of publication with a second class mailing permit.
Shall have filed an application for membership with the Executive Director of the Association, agreeing to pay all dues assessed pursuant to these Bylaws. (Dues are based on the newspaper’s advertising revenue, and will be determined upon a newspaper’s acceptance)
To qualify for election as an active Digital Member a person:
Shall be an individual, partnership, corporation or association or other entity which publishes a digital news site
-The site must not serve primarily as a platform to promote the interests or opinions of a special interest group, political interest, individual, or cause
-The site must have an inception date that is 24 months or greater
-The site must use the recognized standards of professional journalism. Its content must be revised on a regular basis with timestamps, not less than once per week
-The site must be registered as an Iowa state corporation with the Iowa’s Secretary of State’s office.
Digital Membership annual dues shall initially be set based on members operating in markets with a population of 50,000 or more, or for members in markets with a population of fewer than 50,000, with all members agreeing to pay dues as assessed in accordance with the INA Bylaws
To qualify for an election as an Affiliate member a person shall be engaged in a commercial enterprise doing business with or providing goods or services to members.
To qualify for election as a Friend of the Iowa Newspaper Association:
Shall be an individual formerly actively engaged in the newspaper publishing industry, or
Any other person deemed by the Board of Directors to be qualified.
To qualify for election as an Academic Member, a person shall:
Publish a college, university or institution of higher learning newspaper, or
Publish a newspaper whose readership is primarily students, faculty, and staff at a college, university or institution of higher learning.
