The INA Annual Convention is the premier annual gathering for Iowa’s local news community and one of the most valuable days on the calendar for anyone working in Iowa journalism. Each February in Des Moines, publishers, editors, reporters, photographers, advertising and marketing professionals, digital specialists, college journalism students, and industry partners come together to learn, connect, and celebrate the work that keeps Iowa communities informed.
For many attendees, the convention is one of the few opportunities each year to step away from the daily demands of publishing and focus on what comes next. Sessions led by experienced journalists, media consultants, attorneys, and technology experts cover the topics shaping local news today, from artificial intelligence and audience engagement to investigative reporting, revenue diversification, digital publishing, and newsroom leadership. Attendees leave with practical ideas they can put to work immediately.
Beyond the sessions, some of the most valuable moments happen in the hallways and at the tables between programs. The convention brings together peers from across the state who are navigating the same challenges and opportunities, and those conversations have a way of generating ideas that last long after the day is over.
The convention closes with the Better Newspaper Contest Awards Ceremony, recognizing outstanding work in journalism, photography, design, and advertising from newspapers across Iowa, including the prestigious Newspaper of the Year honors.
Whether you are investing in your own development, building your network, or celebrating your newsroom’s best work, the INA Annual Convention is where Iowa journalism comes together.
