As a Sports Reporter for Mississippi Valley Publications, you will be at the forefront of delivering timely, accurate, and engaging sports coverage across multiple platforms. Your energetic storytelling, sharp journalistic skills, and keen eye for detail will bring sports news to life for fans and followers alike. This full-time position offers an exciting way to develop your reporting expertise while covering a wide range of sporting events, interviews, and breaking news. Research and stay updated on the latest sports news, scores, and developments to deliver current and relevant content. Write clear, concise, and engaging articles following AP style guidelines to ensure consistency and professionalism. Cover live sporting events on-site or remotely, capturing key moments through photography and videography to enhance storytelling. Produce multimedia content including videos, photo galleries, and social media posts that resonate with diverse audiences. Edit and proofread all content meticulously to maintain accuracy, clarity, and journalistic integrity before publication. Fact-check information to ensure credibility and prevent misinformation in all reports. Manage social media channels by posting updates, engaging with fans, and increasing audience interaction. Collaborate with editors, photographers, videographers, and other team members to create cohesive coverage across platforms. Conduct interviews with athletes, coaches, officials, and other stakeholders to gather exclusive insights. Research background information on teams, players, and events to add depth to stories. Strong command of AP style for consistent journalistic writing. Proficiency in photography and videography techniques to produce high-quality visual content. Experience in video production including editing skills using industry-standard software. Excellent editing skills with an eye for detail; ability to proofread and copy edit effectively. Sharp research skills to verify facts quickly and accurately under tight deadlines. Deep understanding of journalism principles combined with compelling copywriting abilities. Exceptional communication skills for interviewing sources and collaborating within a team environment. Knowledge of social media management tools for scheduling posts and analyzing engagement metrics. The successful candidate will determine newspaper content and collaborate with our team to create two publications per week for our audience. The editor will pursue local community storytelling and regular reporting, along with collaborating with interns and correspondents. This position is not remote. It requires 40 hours and offers flexibility along with competitive pay. Knowledge of BLOX CMS is useful but not required.
