Support Local News

Local news isn’t just information.  It’s a quality of life resource for every Iowa community it serves.

The Iowa Newspaper Foundation has championed the future of local news in Iowa since 1984, supporting the nearly 220 daily and weekly newspapers that keep communities informed, connected, and engaged. Beyond funding, we invest in educational programs, sustainable journalism initiatives, and civic events that strengthen the entire local news ecosystem. Our mission is simple: strengthen local news in Iowa and the communities it serves, and raise the funds to make that possible.

Why Support Matters

Strong local newsrooms don’t happen by accident. They take investment in people — the journalists Iowa already has, and the ones still in school who will carry local news forward. The Iowa Newspaper Foundation trains working journalists and connects students with real newsroom experience, serving as a bridge between Iowa’s colleges and universities and the local news outlets that need them most.

This past year, the Foundation put that commitment to work. When newspapers in Iowa communities faced sudden closure, the Bridge Program stepped in keeping newsrooms publishing and public notices intact for the communities that depend on them. Beyond crisis response, the Foundation supported local news through statewide investigative reporting, expanded digital capabilities, and hands-on training that helped working journalists do their jobs better and reach more readers.

If you would like to join these efforts, we invite you to help shape the future of local news in Iowa. Your contribution to the Iowa Local News Fund will be matched dollar-for-dollar, unlocking up to $40,000 in direct investment in Iowa journalism. Give Now
