Many Iowa newspapers have made a commitment to membership in the National Newspaper Association. Our industry’s challenges with the Postal Service have never been greater and it is more important today than ever before that our industry support its national association. Newspapers are facing increasing postage costs, declining delivery standards and a “partner” that has begun to aggressively compete with the industry through programs like Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) and USPS’s recent Negotiated Service Agreement with newspapers’ direct mail competitor, Valassis.
NNA works tirelessly on the community newspaper industry’s behalf to reduce burdensome postal regulations, keep rates in line and defend the industry in Congress and with the all-powerful Postal Rate Commission. Two recent accomplishments of NNA’s efforts: 1) After many years of hard work, NNA was successful in eliminating the surcharge on repositionable notes; and 2) Because of NNA’s efforts, newspapers can count their digital subscriptions on their postal form 3526.
If that’s not enough, your NNA membership comes with a subscription to Publishers’ Auxiliary, the monthly newspaper chock full of industry information, access to the NNA website 24/7, industry research on readership and advertising trends and much more.
