Dean, School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Drake University
In addition to acting as dean of the journalism program at Drake, I teach the media law and ethics class. Prior to teaching, I worked for 20 years as news editor, copy desk chief and columnist at The Des Moines Register. I received my undergraduate journalism degree from Drake in 1976, my master's in journalism from Drake in 2001, and my law degree from the Drake Law School in 2002. I am a member of the Iowa bar.
I am married to photojournalist Doug Wells, who worked at The Des Moines Register for 28 years and is now head of the photography program at Grand View University. We have three children: Caitlin, a Grinnell College graduate who is a librarian at New Mexico State; Brendan, a graduate of the University of Iowa who lives in Minneapolis; and Conor, a student at Drake.
Reading, especially non-fiction and biographies/autobiographies; walking my dog; church activities, and attending as many Bruce Springsteen concerts as I can!
